Do you have a lot of photos on your phone or digital camera? Or do you have a CD or flash drive of images from a family photo session that you’ve been meaning to print? Not sure where to print your digital images for the best quality? I can help!
When it comes to printed photographs, you really do get what you invest. I always urge my families to choose quality over cheaper alternatives to ensure images look their best AND most importantly, that they don’t fade over time. Many popular labs offer very cheap and even free prints. This is a great option for when you need images fast, but these photos are prone to fade.
When ordering prints that you had professionally taken, your photographer will have carefully calibrated their computer screens to match professional print labs’ color profiles, not to mention to reflect their unique artistic style. Printing professionally taken photos at a drug store or cheap online photo company will very likely lead to disappointing results that are drastically different than your photographer intended. Often, the cheaper labs use inks that distort color.
On occasion when my son had a school project and I needed a photo printed quickly, I’ve had to order a few prints from a local chain that does one-hour printing and I usually cringe at the quality and over-saturation not to mention the ugly glossy paper.
Besides my preferred professional labs, I have found a couple consumer labs that I love to use for my personal prints. (Disclosure: I do not get compensated by these companies if you click on these links, I just believe in these products and want to share them with you.)
For both your everyday and professionally taken photos, I highly recommend Mpix.com. They are owned by one of my favorite professional labs that I use to fulfill client boutique product orders and they offer exceptional quality at an affordable price point. In addition to prints and photo books, they have a variety of other print products.
I use this print lab on a regular basis for my personal photographs and I believe in their quality.
My favorite site for ordering special prints, or gift prints with a distinctive, high-quality style is Artificat Uprising. Their everyday print sets are available in a wide array of sizes, including square sizes, which are perfect for all you Instagram photos. The paper resembles matte card stock, rather than traditional glossy paper. They also have beautiful options for creating a classic linen photo books and albums, as well as a variety of truly unique photo gifts that I have purchased over and over to give to my family members. I’ve purchased several photo books from them and they are stunning quality.
I hope you found this helpful! Wondering why you should print your photos instead of storing them on hard drives or Facebook? Stay tuned for an upcoming article on Why Printed Photos Matter.
