Best Parks for Spectacular Spring Blooms in New Jersey

Looking for ideas for fun family day trips in New Jersey this spring? I’ve got you covered. Below are my favorite parks to visit to see spring blooms in New Jersey in April.

If you’ve never seen the spectacular display of pink blossoms behind Roosevelt Intermediary School in Westfield, you’re missing out. It’s a great little spot! The spring blooms usually peek in April but don’t last very long so don’t wait too long.

Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ

Did you know that Branch Brook Park has the largest collection of cherry blossom trees (over 5,000!) in the United States? That’s more than Washington, DC, which is known for its cherry blossom display. While Branch Brook Park gets pretty crowded on weekends in April, I love visiting during weekdays and early evenings. It’s much easier to find parking and enjoy the park without a crowd.

Warinaco Park, Elizabeth, NJ

Don’t feel like driving to Newark and dealing with crowds? Not to worry. Head over to Warinaco Park in Union County. Located on the border of Roselle and Elizabeth, Warinaco Park has a smaller, but still gorgeous display of cherry blossoms and more magnolia trees than I’ve ever seen in one small area. It’s absolutely gorgeous if you catch them in full bloom. Like Branch Brook, Warinaco park has great walking/biking trails and lots of picnic areas, as well as a small pond and plenty of open space for flying a kite or playing catch with your kids. The park also has a running track and turf field.

Hurd Park, Dover, NJ

Also known for its beautiful cherry blossom trees, Hurd Park is a small scenic park located in an urban area of Dover (on Rt. 46) that features a Veterans of War Memorial, small walking bridge and open area. There’s a quaint stream that passes through the cherry trees and it’s a great spot to enjoy a picnic or let the kids run around. Note, there is no parking lot. 

Holland Ridge Tulip Farm, Cream Ridge, NJ

If you like tulips, Holland Ridge Farms is a must see. Located in Cream Ridge, and about an hour from Scotch Plains, this family-owned farm features row upon row of colorful tulips. It’s breath-taking and well worth the drive! And, an added bonus is the pick your own field. You can create your own bouquet for only $1 a stem (after admission fee for $12 for adults). They also deliver tulip surprise boxes throughout NJ, which make great gifts! Last spring, I surprised my mom and a friend with a tulip surprise box and they loved them.

Although Holland Ridge Farm was closed to visitors last spring due to the pandemic, they are scheduled to open in April for their 2021 spring tulip season. Check their site for Covid 19 safety guidelines and details. Note, tickets must be purchased in advance online.

Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Summit, NJ

Another nearby gem, Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit has a beautiful display of Daffodils along with many other blooms throughout April. Be sure to take a walk on their woodland trails.
