Finding Calm in the Chaos and My Top Twenty Photos of 2020
It’s been a year like no other, with many challenges. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting and reminding myself of all that I have to be grateful for. I’ve found moments of calm through meditation, long walks, lots of hot tea, and the occasional glass of wine (when all else fails).
If you’re like me, it’s easy to get lost in the daily demands and difficulties of parenthood, now more than ever. As we continue to navigate our way through this pandemic world, I believe our connections to loved ones–family and friends–are so precious and powerful. I’m grateful for the chance to capture those connections for families.
Thank you to the families who supported me and my business during this difficult year. I’m so happy to share that in spite of my business being closed for three months during the quarantine, I photographed more families in 2020 (while wearing a mask and keeping a safe distance outdoors) than in 2019, and I also launched my Fine Art School Portrait sessions!
My Top Twenty Favorite Photos
Every year I review and reflect on my favorite images. I’m always looking to learn what I could do better technically or creatively so that I can provide families with images they will truly love. What I’ve discovered from studying my images, as well as those of the artists I admire, is that my favorite images aren’t perfect. But, they almost always share something in common–they evoke emotion. They make me feel something. Love. Joy. Nostalgia. Sometimes they spark a memory of when my son was a baby or toddler. You know, those sentimental and sometimes fleeting feelings that we as mothers and fathers want to hold onto, especially when we’re at our wits end? Those are the feelings I hope to evoke for each family I photograph. Those are the feelings I get when I look at my favorite images.
So without further ado, here are My Top Twenty Images from 2020.
I hope that this new year is filled with much laughter and love, peace and joy and good health for you and your family!
