Basking Ridge, NJ Newborn Session | English Countryside Baby Nursery
One of the greatest joys of photographing newborns at home is capturing a family’s unique dynamic within the comfortable embrace of their own space. It’s also a privilege to witness the beautiful nurseries parents design with such love for their new arrival. Mothers often pour their hearts into creating a calming and stylish haven to welcome their baby home. To be able to document these thoughtful details and preserve these precious memories for families to cherish forever is truly an honor. I was so happy to have the opportunity to photograph this Basking Ridge, NJ newborn session in a stunning nursery.
During my session planning calls with clients, I always inquire about the baby’s nursery. This helps me understand if incorporating this space into the photos is important to the parents, and most importantly, if it has ample natural light. When this lovely mama, Christina, mentioned her nursery during our call, she not only expressed its significance but also her immense pride in the countless hours she’d invested in its décor. She even shared a few snapshots, and I knew instantly that capturing the family in this space would be special. But seeing it in person on the session day – it was truly breathtaking!
A Dreamy English Countryside Nursery
Christina, Baby Nora’s mom, had chosen a captivating palette of soft pinks, roses, and springtime greens. The enchanting nursery embodied a vintage English countryside aesthetic, featuring the iconic Colefax and Fowler Bowood wallpaper. This charming pattern boasts a delicate rose bouquet motif in shades of grey and green against a neutral backdrop, evoking a timeless elegance.
Christina shared her long-standing admiration for the wallpaper’s design, which originated from an English manor called Bowood House, dating back to the 19th century. When she learned they were expecting a baby girl, it was the perfect opportunity to bring her vision to life, using the wallpaper as the nursery’s core inspiration. Christina envisions this space being Nora’s haven throughout her childhood, and perhaps even a lovely office or sitting area in the future.
Ultimately, Christina dreams of transforming the family’s charming 1922 Dutch Colonial home, shared with her husband and three young children, into an oasis reminiscent of an English country house. The gorgeous nursery is undoubtedly a beautiful first step towards achieving that vision, and I can’t wait to see the rest unfold!
