Hanging photos on your walls is one of the best ways to enjoy your family memories every day. Whether you’re planning a newborn session, a maternity session, or a full family session, the right print size can make a huge difference in how your images feel in your home.
As a Westfield, NJ lifestyle photographer, I help families across Union County and beyond display their photos beautifully.
A common question I get during ordering sessions is, “What size photos would look best on my wall?” Many families think 8×10 or 11×14 prints are large—but when these images are hung above a standard sofa or over a mantle, they can look surprisingly small.

For walls, larger prints almost always make a bigger impact and highlight the emotion and connection captured during your family, maternity, or newborn session.

Here are some of my favorite tips for choosing sizes that work beautifully in your home:
Ideally, your wall art should cover 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of a sofa, dresser, or headboard. This ensures your images feel like a statement piece rather than a small accent.
When choosing a standalone image, larger prints allow your family’s personalities and emotions to shine. A 30×40 canvas above a full-sized sofa, for example, creates a visual impact you just can’t achieve with smaller frames.
Choosing the right size is only half the battle–having gorgeous, emotive photos to fill them is another. I specialize in creating timeless, lifestyle portraits for families in Westfield, Madison, Union, Somerset, and Morris Counties.

Before ordering any prints, measure your wall and think about the furniture and décor around it. Large walls can handle bigger statement pieces or gallery walls, while smaller walls might be better suited to a few medium-sized prints.

For multiple images in a grouping or gallery wall, consider a mix of sizes that flow together. Your prints should complement each other while keeping the focus on your family’s story.

When you book a session with me, I provide a custom wall display guide. By taking photos of the walls where you want to hang prints, I can create several layout options that show exactly how your images will look in your home.
During our pre-session consultation, we’ll talk about:
This makes it easy to select sizes that truly showcase your images — no guesswork required.

Seeing your family, newborn, or maternity portraits every day isn’t just decorative — it enhances the emotional connection in your home. Studies show that displaying family memories can boost children’s self-esteem and create a sense of belonging.
For me, helping families showcase their memories beautifully is part of the joy of being a New Jersey lifestyle photographer. Your walls should tell your story, and the right print size is the first step in bringing that story to life.
Whether you’re planning a family, maternity, or newborn session, I’ll guide you every step of the way — from capturing genuine, heartfelt moments to turning them into wall art that feels timeless and personal.
