As a new year begins, I want to look back on the past year and share some of the most memorable images of the beautiful families I’ve had the honor of capturing. I thought it would be fun to create categories for this year’s images, instead of just sharing my top 20 images as I did at the end of 2020 (you can see those here). So, without further ado, I give you Most Memorable Sessions Moments of 2021.

Cutest Curls

This category seemed especially fitting given that I’ve got a slight soft spot for photographing baby and little kid curls. I mean, they’re just so darn cute, especially when the sun shines through and gives a golden glow to unruly ringlets.  The irony is, that I relentlessly resisted my curls as a little girl and always wanted my hair to be stick straight. But I digress. Back to the cutest curls I photographed in 2021. It was impossible to pick just one winner because I photographed so many kiddos with the best curls this year so here are a few favorites.

Sweetest Motherhood Moments

As a motherhood and family photographer, I guess it shouldn’t come as any surprise that images of mothers embracing their children are among my most favorite to photograph. Our babies are only little for such a short time, yet as mothers, we all wish we could keep our kids safe in our arms no matter how big they grow.

It was so tough to choose just a few favorite motherhood moments from 2021.

Dandiest Daddy Daughter Moments

I love when dads show up to their session ready to laugh and play with their kids and indulge my silly prompts. This allows me to capture some really wonderful energetic and fun photos, along with the tender ones.

Craziest Weather – Turned into Gorgeous Golden Light

There are two things I look for in every image I capture: light and connection. Light not only makes photography possible, but it holds the power to provoke and enhance emotion— something I strive for in the images I create. I’ve been known to do a little happy dance when I see pretty light. In fact, last October we had just wrapped up a beautiful maternity session on a very cloudy evening. At one point, it started raining lightly and we had to take a break from shooting. Then, just when we were about to head back to our cars, the sun suddenly peeked out for a few minutes. My sweet clients happily indulged my request to shoot a few more images. Those ended up being among my most favorite from their session.

Best Blossoms

Besides pretty light, cute curls, and family snuggles, I also have a fondness for photographing flowers, especially spring and summer blooms. I love incorporating pretty scenery into portraits and lifestyle images.

Last year I scheduled several family and maternity sessions in my favorite New Jersey garden. I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph a gifted gardener and her adorable family amongst their dahlia garden in Bernardsville. The owner of Florasylva, a microflower farm, she grows the most stunning dahlias in every shade imaginable. You can find her beautiful bouquets at local farm markets in Bernardsville, Morristown, Millburn, and Jersey City during summer and fall.

Happiest Baby Smiles

As a newborn and family photographer, I always advise moms it’s ok to hope for, but best not to expect smiles from their babies during their session. Because although I bring out all my magic baby whisperer smile strategies, not every baby is super smiley and those who are sometimes have off days. So, while I still get great photos, smiles are never a guarantee. That said, I’m always over the moon when babies smile because I know how much mothers especially treasure those images.  Here are a few of my favorite baby smiles from 2021.

Favorite New Location

Last year, I was so excited to shoot several photo sessions in some new locations, including Somerset and Hunterdon counties. New Jersey truly has so many outdoor gems, and the images below were taken in what is now my current most favorite place for pretty scenery and peaceful vibes.

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my most memorable session moments; it was really hard to choose from among all my sessions. Thank you so much for following along. I’m incredibly grateful for every family who continues to trust me to capture their memories from year to year, and for the new families that I had the honor of meeting and photographing this past year.
