Timing your maternity photoshoot can seem tricky since every pregnancy is different. Not to worry! These six tips will help you choose the best time for your maternity photos and ensure stunning results.
Six Tips for When to Take Maternity Photos
- During your third trimester, between 27 and 34 weeks (around the 7th and 8th months of pregnancy).
- Schedule earlier if you’re having twins, between 24 and 28 weeks.
- If it’s your first pregnancy, consider booking later to be sure your bump is defined.
- If you’ve been pregnant before, consider booking earlier (before 30 weeks) since moms typically show faster after their first pregnancy.
- Don’t schedule your session too early, as it may be difficult to see a defined bump in your photos.
- Consider how you feel and don’t wait too long since it’s common to feel tired and uncomfortable towards the end of your pregnancy.
Schedule Your Maternity Session in Your Third Trimester
Typically, most women will want to have maternity pictures taken during the third trimester, somewhere between 27 and 34 weeks. The 7th and 8th month of pregnancy is generally the sweet spot as and your baby bump will be beautifully defined during this timeframe. But there are always exceptions.
First Pregnancy? Embrace the Wait
For first-time moms, your bump might blossom a bit later. Don’t worry! The example in this post features a gorgeous mama-to-be at 39 weeks, radiant and ready for her photoshoot.
Just keep in mind that scheduling your maternity session after 35 weeks might mean that you miss out on capturing your pregnancy if your baby should make an earlier arrival.
Expecting Twins? Plan An Earlier Session (24-38 Weeks)
Carrying multiples often means an earlier delivery. Scheduling your session in the second trimester, between 24 and 28 weeks, ensures you capture that beautiful bump before your little ones arrive. The same is usually true for women with a “high-risk” pregnancy. A good rule of thumb is to schedule your session for the second trimester, between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. Usually, by this time, the belly is well-established.
Consider Past Pregnancies
If you’ve been pregnant before, your body might show earlier. Booking before 30 weeks can be ideal, as some women experience quicker baby bumps after their first pregnancy.
Comfort is Key
Don’t wait too long! Towards the end of pregnancy, fatigue and discomfort are common. Choose a time when you feel your best and can move around with ease for natural-looking photos.
Book Early
Contact your photographer when you are about 2 months pregnant to make sure that you are able to reserve a date, especially if you are planning on a fall maternity session, a popular time for New Jersey photography sessions.
By following these tips and reaching out early, you can capture the magic of your pregnancy with beautiful maternity photos. Let’s create timeless memories together!
