When was the last time you printed your photos? As a New Jersey family photographer, based near Westfield, one of the most common questions I hear from families after their session is where they should print their images. After investing in meaningful photos of their growing family—whether it’s a newborn session, maternity photos, or updated family portraits—most parents want to make sure those memories look just as beautiful in print as they do in their online gallery.
With so many options, you may wonder how to choose the best places to print photos.
After testing quite a few options myself (and printing plenty of my own family photos), there are a few places I consistently recommend.
Here are my top three recommendations when it comes to printing photos.
There are several reasons to consider ordering prints, albums, and canvas wall art through your photographer. As a photography business owner, your photographer has access to many print labs that consumers can’t order from. These labs not only offer higher quality print products and papers than consumer labs, but they also specialize in archival photo printing to ensure your prints last for future generations without fading or degrading.
Also, you chose your photographer because you loved her work and chances are you want your photos to look as good in print as they do in your online gallery. Without getting too technical, your photographer’s skills go beyond providing a great photo session experience and editing images in her unique style. She will have carefully calibrated her computer screen and digital files to match the professional print labs’ color profile so that she can make sure printing accurately reflects her artistic editing style. This ensures that your photos look their best. Most photographers, myself included, will only guarantee print quality for prints ordered through them.
Another benefit of ordering artwork through your photographer is that she can help you choose the best size canvas or gallery wall display for your wall space. When families work with me for their New Jersey family or maternity session, I can create a visual design that shows them exactly how their images will look on their own walls. It’s pretty awesome!
But if ordering multiple print products through your photographer isn’t in your budget, not to worry.
Besides my preferred professional labs, I’ve found a couple consumer labs that I highly recommend and often use for my personal prints. (Disclosure: I do not get compensated by these companies if you click on these links, I just believe in these products and want to share them with you.)
For both your everyday and professionally taken photos, I highly recommend Mpix.com. They are owned by one of my favorite professional labs that I use to fulfill client albums, books, prints and canvas products and they offer exceptional quality at an affordable price point. In addition to prints and photo books, Mpix.com has a variety of other print products.
I use this print lab on a regular basis for my personal photographs and I believe in their quality.
Hands down, my favorite consumer lab for ordering special prints, or gift prints with a distinctive, high-quality style is Artificat Uprising. Their everyday print sets are available in a wide range of sizes, including square prints, perfect for Instagram photos. The paper resembles matte card stock, rather than traditional glossy paper. They also offer beautiful options for creating classic linen photo books and albums, as well as a variety of truly unique photo gifts that I have purchased as gifts for family members. I’ve purchased several photo books from them, and they are stunning.

When I’m working with new clients, I always ask how they plan to enjoy their photos after their session. Often, families who haven’t worked with me before admit that they often forget to print their photos, instead sharing them with family and friends on social media.
As a lifestyle New Jersey family photographer, my goal is always to create images that feel genuine and meaningful—photographs that deserve to live somewhere more permanent than a phone or computer screen.
Many of the families I photograph here in New Jersey ask if there are good places to print photos locally. While some pharmacies and big-box stores offer quick photo printing, I’ve found that the quality and color consistency can vary quite a bit.
That’s why I typically recommend using trusted online labs like Mpix or Artifact Uprising. These companies specialize in photographic printing and offer better paper quality, accurate color, and a wider range of photo products than most quick-print locations.
Of course, the very best option is still ordering prints directly through your photographer, since professional labs are calibrated specifically for photographic work.
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is seeing the moment when families finally hold their images in their hands. Whether it’s a newborn album, a stunning gallery-wrapped maternity portrait, or a gallery wall from a recent family session, printed photographs have a way of becoming part of everyday life in your home. The family photos I display in my home bring me such joy daily and remind me of treasured memories.
I always encourage my clients to print their digital photos. It’s the best way to preserve your memories and ensure that your children and future generations have tangible keepsakes. In fact, I am so passionate about printing our family photos that I built my business around offering a beautiful line of printed products, from everyday archival prints to custom-designed albums and books, and wall art.
The best prints start with beautiful images. If you’re searching for a New Jersey family, maternity, or newborn photographer who specializes in lifestyle and candid photography, I’d love to help you create images that are worthy of printing and will be enjoyed for years.
