There’s a reason fall is typically the most popular season for annual family photos. Families adore rich autumn foliage in New Jersey and cooler temperatures. But outdoor summer sessions offer a few benefits over fall sessions and have become a favorite season of many families. Here are the three best reasons to book your summer session in New Jersey.
1. Lush trees and beautiful flowers make great backdrops to family photos
It’s no secret that I love flowers of all kinds, and in New Jersey, we are lucky to have so many gorgeous gardens. From cherry blossoms to lilacs in early spring, to roses and wildflowers in summer, there’s nothing not to love. And flowers and other greenery add nice depth and texture, as well as color to the scene. That’s one reason many families I work with choose a summer family session.
2. You can’t beat relaxed summer evenings and pretty sunsets
Summer is typically a more relaxed time for families, with fewer activities and schedules to stick too. Since the sun sets later during summer, it’s easier to plan an evening weekday session, which keeps your weekends free for barbecues, beach days and other activities.
Summer sessions are scheduled about 1.5 -2 hours before sunset, depending on the location we choose. That allows for the gorgeous golden light that you see in many of my Portfolio images. Kids are often excited to stay up a little later in summer, and I can share my tips for keeping them happy a little past bedtime. Plus, planning a fun family treat afterwards, like ice cream, gives everyone something else fun to look forward to after your session.
3. Summer is a great time to celebrate children in this stage before moving to the next one
Whether your children are starting school in the fall or moving to a ‘big kid school’ or even leaving home, you’ll never regret capturing them at THIS stage of life. One of the best reasons to book a family or child photoshoot, regardless of the time of year is to create memories of various stages of childhood so that you and your family can relive them together in years to come. Children grow up so fast, and the summer is such a great time to create memories of whatever stage of life your children are in now. Imagine a few years from now, everyone piling on the sofa to look back through a family album filled with your memories from a fun and relaxed family session at one of New Jersey’s beautiful parks or gardens or quaint downtown areas.
