Pregnancy is such a special season of life—but when you’re pregnant and chasing a toddler around all day, life can feel like a chaotic whirlwind.
One minute you’re imagining life with your new baby, and the next you’re wiping sticky hands, negotiating snack requests while warding off your little one’s impending tantrum.
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
As a New Jersey maternity photographer specializing in lifestyle maternity photography, I’ve found that some of the most meaningful maternity photos happen when families are simply allowed to be themselves. And when there’s a toddler involved, that’s exactly what makes an in-home maternity session such a perfect fit.
Lifestyle maternity sessions aren’t about stiff posing or forcing perfect smiles. They’re about connection—capturing the love, anticipation, and the real moments in between.
Here’s why in-home maternity photos are the perfect option when you have a toddler and why so many New Jersey families choose this experience.

Toddlers are wonderfully unpredictable. They’re curious, emotional, energetic, and hilarious… and they definitely don’t care about posing for photos.
That’s exactly why in-home maternity sessions work so beautifully.
In your home, your toddler can relax. They can play with their toys, explore their favorite spaces, snuggle on the couch, or climb into bed for a cuddle.
My approach to photography is very lifestyle-focused, meaning I gently guide you into flattering light and natural interactions—but I’m never expecting your toddler to “perform.” Instead, I let their personality lead the session.
And that’s where the magic happens–we’re able to create images that feel natural, connected, and full of real personality.
If you’ve ever tried to get a toddler dressed, packed, and out the door on time, you already know: it’s an Olympic sport.
Outdoor maternity sessions can be beautiful, but they often require more planning—especially when you’re pregnant and trying to coordinate around naps, snacks, weather, and toddler moods.
With an in-home session, there’s no rushing to a location or worrying about being late. We’re able to start right at your home, and everything you need is already there.
Because lifestyle sessions are meant to feel relaxed and natural, this slower pace works perfectly—especially for moms who want their photos to feel genuine and unforced.
One of the most meaningful parts of in-home maternity photography is that your home becomes part of your story.
This is the place where your toddler is growing up. It’s where you’re preparing to welcome a new baby. It’s where everyday life is happening right now.
Years from now, you won’t just look back at these images and remember what you looked like during pregnancy—you’ll remember what life felt like.
In-home maternity sessions are timeless because they capture not just the season… but the setting.

One of the biggest worries moms have before booking an in-home session is:
“My home isn’t perfect.”
The good news? You don’t need a perfectly styled home or huge windows. I promise!
As long as we have a few pockets of natural light—usually near your bedroom windows, living room, or nursery—we can create beautiful, flattering images. However, if the light is limited due to heavy cloud cover, I’m also skilled at using off-camera flash in a very subtle way to add just a kiss of light when needed. My goal is always to keep your images looking natural and flattering, while ensuring you still receive a beautiful gallery no matter what the weather looks like outside.
In fact, some of the most emotional maternity photos happen in the simplest spaces: a bed, a couch, or a nursery chair near a window.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s connection.

This is one of my favorite parts.
Maternity sessions with toddlers aren’t about stiff posing or perfect smiles. They’re about the connection between you and your child in this in-between season.
Because the truth is: your toddler is about to become a big brother or big sister.
That’s a huge change for them—and this session gives you a chance to slow down and honor the bond you share right now, before your family grows again.
Some of the sweetest moments happen when toddlers:
Those are the photos that moms often cherish the most.

If you’re nervous your toddler won’t cooperate, please hear this:
You don’t need a perfectly behaved toddler to have a beautiful maternity gallery.
I photograph families with toddlers all the time, and I fully expect them to be… well… toddlers.
They might be shy at first. They might run away. They might refuse to sit still. They might want to show me every toy they own.
That’s okay. I’m here for it all. I’ve heard from many families I work with that my calm, patient demeanor put both them and their toddler at ease.
My sessions are designed to be playful and relaxed, with gentle guidance along the way. I’ll guide you into the best light, suggest natural prompts, and allow plenty of time for breaks.
Some of the best images come from real moments—not forced ones.
This New Jersey maternity session was the perfect example of why I love photographing families–especially when there’s a toddler involved.
Mom wanted maternity photos that felt cozy, natural, and meaningful. She didn’t want anything overly posed, but she still wanted images that felt flattering and beautiful.
We photographed in a few simple areas of her home—the bedroom, living room, and kitchen—using soft window light to create a calm, warm feel throughout the session.
When I arrived at their house, the family’s toddler led me to her room and proudly introduced me to a few of her favorite stuffed animals! I always spend a few minutes letting toddlers warm up and get comfortable before I bring out my camera. It’s amazing how quickly it helps them relax and start showing their true personalities.

For lifestyle maternity sessions, I always recommend outfits that feel comfortable and timeless. Soft fabrics and neutral tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on connection.
