Lifestyle newborn sessions allow for some flexibility in choosing the age that works best for your family. Scheduling a session when your baby is 6-14 days old allows us to capture those fresh first few weeks when your newborn is sleepy. But some families prefer to schedule a session when they feel a little more settled into a routine at home with their baby. In that case, I suggest we plan a session when your baby is 2-4 weeks old. There really is no rule though and I've photographed babies who are three, six, and nine months old. I recommend reaching out and booking with me before the birth of your baby when possible. We can pick a tentative date and I'm always happy to adjust it if we need to.  

Your home doesn't need to look like a cover of a home decorator magazine for me to create stunning photos of your newborn and family. I've photographed families in homes of all sizes and styles. All I need is one room with a good-sized window and a bed or chair and you and your baby to make magic! I'll asses your home and find the room(s) with the best natural light. During your session planning call, I'll give you tips for getting your home ready -- no crazy cleaning required, I promise! I recommend removing clutter and any items you wouldn't want in your photos.

Including siblings in newborn sessions is a wonderful way to capture your family dynamic along with tender and candid moments. I've found that siblings do best when they know what to expect, are made to feel important during the session, and are given the freedom to be themselves. I have several other tips up my sleeve that are helpful with toddlers. Most important is to avoid threats to behave. Instead, come up with a reward that your toddler or child would look forward to after the session.

Choose comfortable clothing that reflects your style and coordinates, without overly matching. Neutral colors and muted tones work well for in-home sessions, look timeless, and feel fresh and organic. I do not pose babies or place them into unnatural positions. I believe babies are perfect resting comfortably in your arms, on a blanket, or in a crib. As a lifestyle newborn photographer, my aim is to capture authentic moments and natural interactions, including snuggling, playing, feeding that reflect your family's essence.

In home newborn sessions typically last 1.5 - 2 hours, allowing time for feeding top offs and a  diaper change if needed. Most important, you'll never feel rushed during your session.
